  1. I love, love, love your site! We live in Kitchener but are on the hunt for an engaging Brownie Unit in this area. Know any like-minded units out this way?

    1. Hey Penelope! Thanks for getting in touch! I'm not super familiar with the Brownie units in Kitchener (Kitchener is a different administrative community than Guelph), but I do have some good recommendations for you! This is a great time to explore units and look into some options, as it's the "Try Now, Join Later" program, which means you can visit a unit, check it out, and if you like it, join for free until the rest of the year. Not all units are participating (some might not, if they are already full), but many are.

The best thing you can do to investigate your local units would be to check out the Unit Finder tool: https://register.girlguides.ca/web/onlinereg/unit_search/onlinereg/unitsearch.aspx

Enter your postal code or city and branch (Brownies) and you'll be able to see all the units in your area and the dates and times they meet. There's no way (due to confidentiality) to see the contact information for each unit, so you might need to drop by during a meeting to get in touch with someone. You could also try contacting Girl Guides of Ontario to see if they can put you in touch with any local leaders.

I would also add, depending on the age of your Brownie, you could start looking into Guide units. If she is in Grade 2 now, look for Brownies. If she's in grade 3, start looking at Guider units, as that's where she will be in the fall. (Or look for a good group of Brownies that she might want to move to Guides with.)

The last thing I would add is that you definitely shouldn't be discourage if you don't like the first unit you visit! Every unit's programming is determined by the leaders who run that unit. There are always going to be common threads between groups, and also differences. Some groups are arts and crafts based, others prefer adventures and trips. It looks like a number of the groups in Kitchener are actually Spark-Brownie combined units, so you would need to decide if that's something you like, or dislike.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes! :) Hope this is helpful!

  2. Hello, I'm a Brownie leader in Ottawa and we were interested in trying to find information on the Great Guiding Mystery for our camp. If you have anything you could send, please let me know.
